Crown or Bridge
Dental crowns, also known as “caps,” cover a damaged or otherwise abnormal tooth in order to restore shape, strength, or esthetic appearance. Crowns come in materials including gold or other metals, resin, porcelain, or a combination of porcelain fused to metal. Crowns are often designed to match the color of surrounding teeth to provide a more natural appearance.
A restorative dentist repairs teeth affected by tooth decay, traumatic injury, or discoloration. Dr. Sonja Munoz offers a full range of restorative dental treatments. In addition to fillings and individual crowns, dentures, dental implants, veneers, and bonding, she is an expert in treating missing teeth with carefully designed bridges. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by splinting three or more crowns together, using adjacent teeth on each side of the space as anchors. In order to replace missing teeth with a bridge, the anchor teeth need to be shaved down to accommodate the crowns. This process may present future complications for the anchor teeth, such as the need to perform root canal therapy if the nerves become inflamed.
